In 2025, I was given a major new project. Promote the morning newscasts. It came with a new early morning alarm and brand new workflow that needed to be created.
The first task. Make a daily promo that can run in the first break of Good Morning America. I write, shoot, and edit a 30 second spot in just a little more than an hour. It's easier than it sounds, especially when you have a news department wants to help.
The biggest benefit I've seen is the ability to set the tone for the day. If you wake up and there was a major new event overnight. You're ready and have a slot all day on the logs to run a spot promoting coverage. Slow news day? Go with major tentpoles of news promotion. Weather, Traffic, and consumer. These spots are a great way to set the tone for the day and get ahead of major news stories and trends before everyone wakes up. Since the start we've seen our morning news lead grow.
